In February we welcomed volunteers researching the copper industry in Swansea, particularly the Musgrave engine. We have previously worked with groups researching the copper works at White Rock and Hafod Morfa. It has been great to be able to support the heritage projects and regeneration that is taking place in the former centre of the world copper trade – Swansea (also known as Copperopolis)!
We have also been delighted to welcome a large number of student groups over the last few weeks. Topics that have been investigated include childhood and play, the history of language, the Cold War and nuclear disarmament, 20th century disasters, the 1984-5 Miners’ Strike, and the Spanish Civil War. More sessions that we have on the horizon include welcoming students to research the influenza pandemic of 1918, war photography, and medieval and early modern documents.
