We’re delighted to announce that we are taking part in the Swansea Learning Festival 2019. Join us on Wednesday 3rd April!
Visit the Archives between 1.30pm and 4.30pm to find out about the history of the University and how the University’s archives also reveal the history of Swansea. As well as documents from the early days of the University College Swansea, the display of items will include records relating to the copper and other metal industries that helped to put Swansea on the global map, and maybe something relating to the Archives’ namesake – the actor Richard Burton. Talk with the archivists about the collections held by the University and how they can be used.
There will also be tours of behind the scenes in the Archives at 1.30pm, 2.00pm, 2.30pm, 3.00pm, 3.30pm, 4.00pm. If you’re interested in joining us on a tour please do book your place.
In conjunction with the above there is also the opportunity to be introduced to the history of Swansea University by joining Dr Sam Blaxland on a tour of the Singleton Park Campus. Dr Blaxland is currently writing a book on Swansea University’s history to mark its forthcoming centenary in 2020 and his tour will take in various buildings across the Singleton Park Campus – starting with the Abbey and its immediate surroundings, and encompassing the 1937 Library, Taliesin, Fulton House, the Wallace Building and its gardens plus other parts of the University.
The tour will start from the front door of Singleton Abbey at 2.30pm. It will last for c1hr. Please book your place for this chance to find out more about the University.
